mass concrete. Another unique feature of the
Morrow Point Dam and powerplant is that we
are proposing an underground powerplant at
this site. It will house two 60,OOO-kw generat-
ing units. This is the first underground power-
plant that the Bureau of Reclamation has ever
constructed.

Moving on to the transmission system under
the Storage Project, all transmission lines
sCheduled to be constructed at the present time
are under contract. The ll5-kv line from Blue
Mesa to Gunnison is completed and in operation,
delivering power to the Blue Mesa Dam site.
The Flaming Gorge-Rangely l38-kv line is also
completed. The next item under the transmis-
sion system is the construction of the major
substations. The contract for the pinnacle
Pe~c Substation was awarded on November 30th.
Bids will be opened tomorrow for the Curecanti
Substation. They are scheduled for opening on
the Hayden Substation on February l4th and bids
are scheduled for call on the Shiprock Substa-
tion in late January or early February.

Plans for the construction of a Power
Operation Center at Montrose are rapidly being
firmed up. It is planned that this center will
be in operation by July l, 1964. Bids will be
opened on February 5, 1963 for construction of
a multichannel microwave radio system for
supervisory control of the' Storage project
transmission system.

Now moving on to the participating proj-
ects, paonia Dam is completed. Water was
stored in the dam last year and delivered to
the irrigators. There is some minor repair
work to be completed at the outlet works struc-
ture. Also the Smith Fork project is sub-
stantially completed. Water is presently being
stored in the Crawford Reservoir and we look
to be delivering 'irrigation water under that
project next year. However, it will be a
seasoning and testing year next year on all
the project features.
