'.

".

~

e

e

.

For some of the projects listed above there is only partial funding to date, so their needs have not
necessarily been fully met. Another obvious question is, "What about Rank 8 - 10, Rank 13 and Rank
15?" The projects ranked # 8 and # 9 relate to the Rio Grande and its tributaries in the San Luis
Valley, The CWCB has just begun working with several potential partners to put that project together,
but the package is still not in place, The proposed project ranked # 13, San Miguel County, is in the
preliminary discussion stages with the local government. The proposed project ranked # 15, Weld
County streams other than St. Vrain Creek, is also in the preliminary discussion stage with Weld
County, The CWCB is already working with Weld County on floodplain mapping for St. Vrain Creek,
so mapping needs for these other streams will be a natural topic of discussion, Despite the fact that
some of the state's top floodplain mapping needs are being at least partially addressed, there are
numerous suitable candidates for future floodplain mapping partnerships between CWCB, local
governments throughout Colorado, and federal agencies,

Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Board request the General Assembly to authorize $100,000 from the
Construction Fund to be appropriated to the Colorado Water Conservation Board for floodplain
mapping, Using the July 2001 priority list as a starting point, the staffwill select the most appropriate
communities in Colorado for the FY 02-03 floodplain mapping program,

L:Isectionfolderslseca\board meetings\november 2001\agenda item 24ffloodplain mapping,doc
