e

.

.

topographic mapping will have to be obligated by the appropriate local entities to allow this limited
funding to as many stream miles as possible. Matching funds will be sought from the U,S, Army
Corps of Engineers and FEMA for hydrologic analyses and/or hydraulic analyses, as appropriate, for
the same reason, Some example requests from various communities throughout Colorado are listed in
Table 1 below,
Table 1
Floodplain Mapping Program - Representative local requests for CWCB assistance

Communi Name
EI Paso Count
Lake Count
Rio Grande County, Del Norte, Monte
Vista
Conejos County

Stream Name s
Black S uirrel Creek and tributaries
Arkansas River and tributaries
Rio Grande

Conejos River and tributaries, Alamosa
River
Florida River, Junction Creek, VaIlecito
Creek, La Plata River, Rock Creek
????

La Plata County

Grand Junction

Overall List of Proposed Floodplain Mapping Projects
Attached to this memo is a tabulation of floodplain mapping needs throughout Colorado, assembled
July 2001. This tabulation provided the starting point for considering specific mapping projects, The
first column shows the mapping need ranking for each potential project. For example, # 1 (Gypsum)
was judged to be the most significant floodplain mapping need, independent of whether Gypsum
would find partners to help complete the project, and/or provide a local match of some kind, and/or
independent of any potential (as of July 1, 2000) or partially completed mapping projects funded by
other agencies such as FEMA. The other columns in the table provide information about the location,
the county, possible partnering/cost-sharing, the reasons why the study is needed, and pertinent
comments,

Since the time this table was begun (July 1,2001), some things had either changed or evolved, Several
mapping projects involving FEMA had progressed (e.g, the Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps, called
DFIRMs, for Jefferson County and municipalities). Projects funded by last year's floodplain mapping
moneys (available from this year's Construction Fund allocation on July I, 2001) are in the initial
engineering stages, The ranking for this year's priority list has not been adjusted yet, but once those
projects have been completed, adjustments will be made, Some communities for which state or federal
work is underway are listed below:

1) GypsumlEagle County
2) El Paso County (Black Squirrel Creek)
3) Gunnison County
4) Basalt
5) Weld County (St. Vrain Creek)
6) El Paso County (Fountain Creek)
7 Otis
8) Delta County
9) Greeley
10) Pierce

Rank 1 &2
Rank 3
Rank 4
Rank 5
Rank 6
Rank 7
Rank 1 I
Rank 12
Rank 14
Rank 16

~
