Tipton, Consulting Engineer of the Board, was called upon by the <br />Governor to present a summary statement, and analysis of the scope and' effect of the <br />Colorado Hiver Storage ?roject Plan. The broad phases, scope, purposes and effect of th~s <br />plim of;,!iEivelopiilemt of Colgradots ,water resources were reviewed by Mr. Tipton. <br /> <br />It was stated by the Director that,' following the four hearings held in Western <br />Colorado (Durango, Gunnison, Delta and Meeker, Colorado) on the report o~the Bureau of <br />Heclamation covering the proposed Colorado Hiver Storage Project and Participating Pro- <br />jects, the office of the Colorado Water Conservation Board, in compliance with the request <br />made at the hearings, had received in written form, comments and views. from about seventy <br />individuals and organizations in Vlestern Colorado On .t.his project. These written comments <br />and views were reproduced and heretofore were furnished to the members of the Colorado Water <br />Conservation Board; and that such views were available at the'meeting for further study by <br />members of the Board. The Director called attention to the fact that there were numerous <br />individuals, most of them from Western ColoradO, present at the meeting who desired to sup- <br />plement any written statements which had heretofore been presented to the Hoard by oral <br />present~tions at this meeting. <br /> <br />Governor Thornton stated that the Board , would proceed to hear from-the many per- <br />sons, present, either for the purpose of. making a statenent personally or for any organiza- <br />tion. He commented that it appeared that the principal question h$!d to do with desirability <br />or the undesirability of including the proposed Curecanti Dam and Reservoir for storage <br />of Gunnison River water as a part of the plan of the Colorado River Storage Project and <br />as a unit for initial authorization. He stated that those who favored the Curecanti Unit <br />would be heard first and that those opposing it would be asked to present their views fol:" <br />lowing the statements of the supporters of the Reservoir. <br /> <br />Statements in support of the Curecanti Unit of the proposed Colorado'River Stor- <br />age Project were then presented by William J. Dodd of Delta, ColoradO, Frank C. Merriell, <br />Secretary-Engineer of the Colorado River Water Conservation District Board, of Grand <br />Junction, ColoradO, and Judge Hume S. White, a member of the Colorado Hiver Water Conser- <br />vation District Board of Eagle,Colorado. <br /> <br />These presentations continued 'until 12;05 p.m. when the Board recessed for lunch. <br /> <br />Afternoon Session <br />Monday, ~une 11, 1951 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 1:55 p.m. by Governor Thornton, Chairman. <br /> <br />Further statements by supporters of the Curecanti unit Of the Colorado River <br />Storage Project were made by A.
