those here from the environmental groups,
would actually visit this river upstream they
would see what the condition of the river is.
It isn't that you are preserving anything.
My God, you wouldn't want to perserve what is
up there now. It is a mess: And there is no
way in my opinion as a geologist, without an
'expenditure of I don't know how many millions
and millions of dollars, more than South Suburban
or Littleton has, to do anything without channel-
izing this river first.

I tell you this, if you are really interested
in a river and its development and the condi-
tion of this river today that they are talking
about here, go up and look at that river. It
is no credit to anybody, nor any county, nor
any town.

I do not know what expertise Littleton has
on rivers. I am sure they are sincere. They
formed an environmental task group last May and
had their first meeting I think May 20. They
have long range plans. I can tell you what I
think those long range plans are, and that is
to lower the land values along the river to
where they can buy them cheap, and zone it and
turn it over to South Suburban so South Suburban
can control the recreational facilities, if .
there ever are any. This is a monumental task.
They will never have enough money to do a job
like this.

Now South Suburban. You talked about parks
and open spaces. South Suburban wants to have
a park within one half mile every direction in
this vast territory. This would be one more
in addition to what will be at the reservoir
which is a fabulous recreational concept.

This river, if we are ever going to do
anything with it, South Suburban, Littleton, or
anybody wants to do anything with it. must be
controlled.

Now we have what is called a wild river
