Chatfield Dam. And to say that because we are
getting the thousand or so acres at Chatfield
Dam we don I t need any more parks, I think is
self defeating. As was indicated by the Mayor,
with our increasing population growth we have 'I
to have parks for the people where the people
are. In saying we have got Chatfield Dam, that
is enough, leave it alone, is to ignore the
people of our community."

"I have some second thoughts about building
a public park on a flood plain from a human risk
element standpoint. I am not sure that we should
have a park there and get old people down there
in wheel chairs. and so forth. There is always
an element of risk involved. I would think that
BUD and the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation would
have second thoughts about it. And perhaps the
City of Littleton."

"I appreciate your point. I am not sure I
agree with it because I think you run the risk
of people in wheel chairs falling in Chatfield
Dam for that matter.

The nature of the floods that you have or
that you would have, particularly with the fact
that the flood is going to be caused by the
release through the dam there should be a pretty
good chance or at least hours when there is
ample warning that there is going to be any
flooding in this area.

In the flood of 1965 for example. the City I
of Littleton evacuated a number of areas adja-
cent to the river saying, 'the state highway
department has told us that the flood is going
to be here in fifteen minutes.' That was when
it was in Castle Rock. We were then in the
awkward position of waiting three and a half
hours until the flood finally got there after
