I

I

MR. STAPLETON:

those two jurisdictions.

However, the Water Board and the Corps of
Engineers I think would want some assurance that
this project in here as it goes clear north to
Oxford as originally proposed. We don't have
answers to these questions, that is why we are
asking for time.

Specifically in conclusion, the Littleton
City Council respectfully requests the members of
this board and the Army Corps of Engineers to
delay action on the proposed channelization proj-
ect until the answers to these questions can be
secured. We ask that those private interest
groups concerned about development of the Platte,
seriously explore the proposal by the City of
Littleton in their analysis of alternatives for
the Platte River. At the same time the City
Council commits itself to aggressively pursue
answers to these questions. If the answers
prove reasonably optimistic. the Council commits
itself to submit the question to the voters of
the City of Littleton for local funding of the
project within six months or by the end of the
year 1971. If the voters of the community reject
the proposal, as it may well be, the Colorado
Water Conservation Board and the Army Corps of
Engineers would be strongly endorsed by the City
of Littleton to proceed exactly ns was outlined.
If the voters of the community say 'y~s' to the
plan of action proposed by the City Council, the
City would proceed to implement its alternative.
hopefully with the approval and blessing of the
Colorado Water Conservation Board, the Colorado
State Legislature. the Army Corps of Engineers
and the U. s. congress.

Gentlemen, thank you very much for your
time and I would be very happy to answer questions
if you have any."

"Larry, thank you for that very thoughtful
presentation. This board met within days or
weeks of the 1965 flood and has been actively
