I.J..I":'

I

However, for channelization the law provides
that local entities must provide any necessary
rights-of-way for channelization of the river
itself, to include the relocation of any bridges,
utilities or ditch headings, or whatever may be
in the way of the channelization. Before the
Corps would start the Chatfield Project it
required assurances from the State of Colorado
that the state would secure the necessary rights-
of-way for the channel itself. After some meetings
with the Governor and legislative committees, a
bill was enacted about four years ago giving this
board the authority to condemn lands and to
acquire either by purchase or donation any lahds
necessary for flood control. The authority of
this board for the acquisition of lands is limited
to flood control purposes.

Following that then we started working with
the Corps on outlining the requirements of the
channelization below the dam. The map you see
here was prepared by the Corps and at this point
is the final plan.

A committee was appointed consisting of repre-
sentatives from all of the cities and towns in
Arapahoe County which were immediately concerned
with the channel. The County Commissioners of
Arapahoe County were also requested to appoint a
member to that committee. That committee then,
over the years, has been kept advised of the
progress of the channelization and were furnished
copies of the plan at the outset. Some changes
have been made in the plan as a result of the
requests of the representatives or the local
citizens involved. What you see here now at
this point is the final plan.

I

I think some of the representatives on that
committee a~e here. ~tr.
