Professor Teller is one of
America's outstanding authorities on atomic energy.

Another item Dean Crawford reported was the re- I
ceipt of feasibility reports On the San Juan-Chama and Nava-
jo Projects in New Mexico. He stated that the San Juan-
Chama was a participating Project and that the initial de-
velopment requested by New Mexico would take 110,000 acre-feet
of its Compact allotment of Colorado water. He stated that
these reports would be studied very carefully and at the
next meeting of the Board data would be available on which
to make formal comment.

MR. CRAWFORD:

"Sometime ago you probably noted in
the Denver Post an article entitled 'Cure-
canti'Blues'. The author of that article,
Mr. Roscoe Fleming, neglected to state
that the project is still under study
and that the original project was not a
low cost pOwer project. A copy of my
letter to Mr. Fleming is as follows:

COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD
212 State Office Building
Denver, Colorado

October 15, 1957

Mr. Roscoe Fleming,
c/o The Denver Post,
Denver, Colorado.

Dear Mr. Fleming:

Your Denver Post article of October 14th presents
a lively picture of the vicissitudes through which the Cure-
canti project has passed. Unfortunately, the present status
appears to have been omitted.

The original Curecanti project was not a low cost
power project and its feasibility was never fully determined.
The cost of developing power under the low dam was estimated
to be considerably more than at the high dam, with the result
that the second or low project was never declared to be
feasible.

I

The project now under consideration, the third one,
consists of the low dam plus down stream dams, two or per-
haps three, which will increase the storage of water and
