DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Forum released its "1999 Review, Water Quality <br />. Standards for Salinity, Colorado River System" on June 24, 1999. The 1999 Review is prepared <br />pursuant to the Federal Clean Water Act and will be acted on by Colorado's Water Quality Control <br />Commission this winter, and then submitted to the US Environmental Protection Agency for <br />approval. <br /> <br />The report describes the Salinity Control Program and the measures being taken in the basin to <br />assure continued compliance with the numeric criteria at three measuring points in the Lower Basin <br />(Hoover, Parker and Imperial). The two major conclusions of the review are that the nurneric criteria <br />do not need to be adjusted, and that the federal portion of program funding needs to be doubled from <br />the $17.4 million currently being expended to nearly $35 million per year. . <br /> <br />Attached is the four page summary of the report for your information and a copy of the notice of the <br />reports availability which we will be distributing. The report is also being made available through <br />the Internet for the first time. A limited number of copies of the full 1999 Report will be available <br />at the Board meeting for distribution to interested Board members.
