I

in the blue arm and the large amounts of foam
will get worse. Here (slide) are. the streaks
of foam along the main basin of Dillon. Here
is the Glory gole spillway of Dillon and this
is the Geological Survey evaporation measuring
raft in the center of the lake. We don't know
the origin of the foams. They are scientifically
very interesting and I think they are indicators
of some factors that we have to worry about in
the management of Dillon reservoir over the next
several years.

One more look at Dillon reservoir (slide)
and another piece of foam showing uP. on the
bl~earm of the reservoir. Apparently we are
getting a thermal bar that is restricting
circulation of different types of water on
Dillon.

I

As I said. these are aerial photographs.
but they are part of a bigger program of what
we.i1re.doing or we want to do on the lakes of
Colorado. For example. we have a sampling pro-
gram for the Bureau of Reclamation that is
operating on a few reservoirs. It has been
going on for several years and will continue.
The Geological Survey has conducted evaporation
studies and we have arrived at a more specific
plah for an expanded evaporation study for the
Denver Board of Water Commissioners. We are
working on a data assembly program to try to
assemble the pieces of data that are held by
many federal and state agencies in the state.
We are using a little bit of Uncle Sam's money
9rt what is called the Front Range Urban Pilot
Study. These three blocks (slide) are areas
in the Front Range that the Geological Survey
is trying to study to come up with information
to help in planning urban growth. As Denver
spreads. and as Fort Collins and Boulder spread,
it becomes important that the water resources
be considered in plans for urban growth. We
are trying to put information together on water
and on the geology that will help in planning.

-49-
