The CWCB dollars would mainly be used as a match against federal
dollars (50/50% cost share) that could be made available to the City. The City with assistance from the
State will contract with the Corps of Engineers, Omaha District for a General Investigation (Gl) Study. The
GI study will consider flood damage reduction, enviromnental restoration, recreation, water quality
improvements, wise use of floodplain lands, and other associated enviromnent enhancements and protections
in the Cache la Poudre River Watershed.

Discussion

At the March 27, 2001 Board meeting, the City made a fonnal presentation to the Board regarding the needs
and benefits of the Cache La PoudreRiver Floodway Project. In the presentation, the City respectfully asked
for the CWCB support for funding for planning, design, and construction of floodway improvements along
the River in Greeley.
Because of the complexity and cost of the proposed project, federal assistance from the Corps of Engineers is
necessary to bring the project to fruition. The Corps finds ,that a federal interest does exist for the project and
has accepted the City and CWCB request for technical and financial assistance.

Flood Protection.
