Fountain Creek Watershed Plan <br /> <br />Grantee/Contractor: Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments <br /> <br />Amount of request: $120,000 <br /> <br />Product Produced: Over 500,000 people reside in the Fountain Creek Watershed and will <br />benefit form this comprehensive plan. Solutions are needed to try and reduce the damage caused <br />by storm events such as the May 1999 storm that caused $40 million in damages. Other phases of <br />plan will identifY problems and solutions and develop recommendations for specific technical <br />management, policy and problem strategies for the problems and needs identified in the previous <br />two years. <br /> <br />Water Planning relationship: Comprehensive watershed planning and needs assessment is <br />needed in the Fountain Creek watershed due excessive development in the floodplains. <br /> <br />4. Grand Junction Drainage District Master Plan <br /> <br />Grantee/Contractor: Grand Junction Drainage District, City' of Grand Junction and <br />Mesa County <br /> <br />Amount of request: $75,000 <br /> <br />Product Produced: This cooperative demonstration feasibility project is designed to investigate <br />the legal, managerial, operational, financial, physical, and political aspects required to reduce the <br />overall cost of providing storm water management, flood hazard mitigation and drainage services <br />to the customers of the myriad of entities responsible for those functions. The feasibility report <br />will identifY common resources and ways to accommodate and mitigate the resources problems <br />and political concerns of the nine entities in the study area. <br /> <br />Water Planning RelationshIp: The Grand Valley entities need a comprehensive approach to <br />address the restoration of the natural environment and flood hazard and drainage issues. The <br />Grand Vaney watershed is multi jurisdictional; thereby, a cooperative approach is needed to <br />bring all the interest parties together. <br /> <br />S. POlldre River Floodway Improvements <br /> <br />Grantee/Contractor: City of Greeley Department of Public Works <br /> <br />Amount of request: $150,000 <br /> <br />Product Produced: A feasibility report will be prepared for the Cache La Poudre River <br />Floodway Project to address the flood hazards, restore of the natural environment functions of <br />the floodplain, incorporate abandoned gravel pit operations into community projects and <br />develop open space and recreational opportunities in undeveloped areas. Much support exists <br />among the adjacent landowners to formulate a plan-of-improvement. The City of Greeley and <br />Corps of Engineers are partners and this two year study will commence on July 1, 2002. <br /> <br />Water Planning Relationship: The local, state, federal government entities and landowners <br />have demonstrated a willingness to develop partnerships to formulate a basin plan that will <br />provide multi-purpose benefits to manmade and natural concerns.
