Water Education Projects <br /> <br />Beneficiary/Grantee/Contractor: CWCB, Various <br />Amount of Request: $50,000 <br /> <br />Ranking: High <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Product Produced: These requested funds would be used to fund CWCB education projects. For <br />example, we will continue to enhance our educational kiosk, our web site and public information <br />material. We will also support request for funds from outside entities that seek to help us promote our <br />mission and objectives, <br /> <br />Water Planning Relationship: The funds and associated projects will improve public <br />understanding of the value of water as a scarce natural resource. This will help local and regional water <br />planning efforts where public understanding and input is important. <br /> <br />Recommendation: Staff gives a high recommendation to the funding of this project because of its <br />impact to educate the public to understand the scarcity and value of our water commodity, <br /> <br />3. Irrigation Water Management <br /> <br />Beneficiary/Grantee/Contractor: Yuma-Washington Well Testing Association, Local Water Users <br />Amount of Request: $35,000 Ranking: Medium <br /> <br />Product Produced: This project promotes Irrigation Water Management (IWM) , The Yuma- <br />Washington Well Testing Association demonstrates to local farmers how to put IWM techniques into <br />place to increase irrigation efficiencies, By doing so, the percentage of water and energy expended . <br />decreases during crop-growing season. This enhances water conservation necessary since water is a <br />scarce resource. This study will be conducted in Phillips, Yuma, Kit Carson and Washington Counties <br />with possible demonstrations in Adams and Logan Counties. <br /> <br />Water Planning Relationship: Water conservation methods and planning is an integral part of <br />water planning. Providing funds to educate and demonstrate to the water users a method that can <br />increase the conservation of water is vital to the overall goals of this Board. <br /> <br />Recommendation: Staff gives a medium recommendation to the funding of this project because of its <br />impact to educate the public regarding conservation methods of water - a scarce natural resource. <br /> <br />4. Water Conservation and Drought Mitigation Planning Grants <br /> <br />Beneficiary/Grantee/Contractor: CWCB, Various <br />Amount of Request: $75,000 <br /> <br />Ranking: High <br /> <br />Product Produced: The funding will be used to implement the Water Conservation and Drought <br />Mitigation Grants as proposed by House Bill 04-1365 to Covered Entities. In 2004, the first major <br />revisions of the state's water conservation statutes (including "The Water Conservation Act of 1991") <br />were enacted. HB 04-1365 authorized the CWCB to develop guidelines to implement the new law and <br />to provide financial assistance using severance tax revenues to such entities. The funds are specifically <br />supposed to be appropriated from the unallocated portion of the five percent share of the Operational <br />Account ofthe Severance Tax Trust Fund authorized for use by the CWCs. <br /> <br />14 <br />
