Also look for it on the Internet. <br /> <br />Letter to GOCO: On Oct. 10 I sent a letter to Great Outdoors Colorado as you requested. A copy of the <br />letter is attached. <br /> <br />Soil Board Meeting: On Oct. II we met with the Director and the President of the State Soil Conservation <br />Board. We discussed areas for future cooperation including a proposed workshop to discuss agricultural <br />water issues. <br /> <br />Agriculture workshop: At our last meeting you expressed support for a workshop to continue to discuss <br />agricultural water issues. Because ofthe limited time between our meetings this fall, no workshop has been <br />planned. However, we would like to propose a workshop this winter, perhaps in March, to coincide with the <br />General Assembly. This should give us ample time to organize a workshop that could be publicized and <br />coordinated with other entities. I hope to get some feedback from you on this issue at our meeting. <br /> <br />Water and Growth Report: A report entitled Water and Growth in Colorado published by the CU Natural <br />Resources Law Center identifies water law and policy issues associated with growth in the state. Based on <br />interviews with 70 water leaders and a review of recent water studies, the report describes existing water <br />problems and potential solutions. The report should be ready for distribution in November. A summary of <br />the report can be reviewed online at <br />www.colorado.edu/law/NRLC/Water and Growth Summarv Report.PDF. <br /> <br />Education Kiosk: We have met with Emmett Jordan, the producer of our water education CD and several <br />other water education tools, about helping us put together a an educational Kiosk for the State Fair and our <br />meetings. We have specifically asked him to put together an interactive video display with accompanying <br />materials regarding: <br />. where water comes from (climate and weather) <br />. how water is stored and conveyed for use <br />. uses of water <br />· background on CWCB and its programs <br />· highlights about CWCB role in financing projects to meet current and future needs. <br /> <br />We expect a written proposal in the near future and can incorporate any ideas you have. <br /> <br />Severance Tax Fact Sheet: We have received many questions about how to obtain funds from the <br />Severance Tax Trust Fund Operational Account for local water planning projects. We have produced a fact <br />sheet that we have placed on the Internet. The fact sheet can be reviewed and printed from <br />www.cwcb.state.co.us/Fact Sheets/Sev Tax.pdf A hard copy is also being provided to you. <br /> <br />New NRLC Director: Jim Martin is the new Director of the CD Natural Resources Law Center effective <br />Jan. 1. Martin is a graduate of Knox College and the law school at Lewis & Clark College in Portland,.._ <br />Oregon. Since 1994 he has been senior attorney with Environmental Defense. Martin's prior experience <br />includes private practice, the Land and Water Fund of the Rockies, and the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish <br />Commission. He also was on the staff of Representative/Senator Tim Wirth from 1986 to 1992. <br /> <br />Second Extraordinary Session: In late September and early October the General Assembly met during a <br />special session to discuss growth and redistricting legislation. The growth bills discussed by the General <br />Assembly included: <br /> <br />. · HB 01S2-1007 -- "Concerning Requirements that Newly-Approved Growth Areas Have Adequate <br />Supplies of Water" (PI'd on 9/21/01). <br /> <br />8 <br />
