1:j~1:j

their representatives of Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri,
North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wyoming and Colo-
rado. At the last meeting, which was the 97th meeting,
of the committee, the following subjec~s were considered:

1. Basic problems in basin development.

I

2. Major Federal development programs and their
relationship to overall basin problems - Soil
Conservation Service.

3. The Corps of Engineers' plan in the ~furais des
Cygnes Basin.

4. History of natural flows - Kansas River.

5. Influence of Bureau of Reclamation programs on
Kansas River flows.

6. Influence of Corps of Engineers' plans on Kansas
River flows.

7. The adequacy of flows in the Kansas River.

This inter-agency committee also meets from six
to eight times a year.

The Pacific Southwest Inter-Agency Committee has,
in general, the same type of membership and objectives as
the other basin committees. However, this committee is the
outgrowth of a former organization composed of Federal De-
partments only which devoted its attention entirely to tech-
nical matters. The present inter-agency committee for this
area does its work largely through four sub-committees.
These are: Committee on Hydrology, Committee on Sedimenta-
tion, and Committee on Phreatophytes.

The Colorado representatives on these sub-commit-
tees are Crawford, Gildersleeve and Boydston. Recently a
Committee on Recreation was authorized.

I

The inter-agency committees are an attempt to se-
cure a very limited amount of coordination of basin plan-
ning. Several years ago there was some agitation to form,
in at least one of these basins, an administration like the
TVA. Opposition at that time was very vocal and intense.
