Secv.-Treas. <br /> <br />Mr. Eakes introduced Mr. Clifford Jex, engineer <br />for the Southwestern Water Conservation District, who dis- <br />played a map of the San Juan drainage basin which he used <br />in explaining just what was involved in the thinking of the <br />Southwestern Water Conservation District in regard to the <br />San Juan-Chama Project. Mr. Jex asked if there were any <br />questions by the members. <br /> <br />MR. BARNARD: <br /> <br />"Has there been any estimate made <br />of the effect of the possible non-coop- <br />eration of the State of New Mexico on <br />the feasibility of the Animas-La Plata <br />Project?" <br /> <br />MR. JEX: <br /> <br />"There is now being prepared an <br />authorizing report on this project. <br />We do know, off the cuff, and this is <br />an offhand opinion, that certainly the <br />irrigation of the New Mexico lands will <br />assist in the feasibility and maybe make <br />all the difference." <br /> <br />MR. MOSES: <br /> <br />"How many acres would be irrigated <br />in New Mexico under the Animas-La Plata <br />Project?" <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />MR. EAKES: <br /> <br />"20,000 acres in New Mexico and <br />86,000 acres in all." <br /> <br />Mr. Eakes spoke on the importance of the Animas- <br />La Plata Project, the money contributed by local people and <br />the Board to the Bureau of Reclamation in furthering the <br />investigation of this project.
