Una
Draft
1/4/83

Mr. Ted L. Stricklann
President of the Senate
Colorado General Assembly
State Capitol
Denver, CO 80203

Mr. Carl B. Bledsoe
Speaker of the House of Representatives
Colorado General Assembly
State Capitol
Denver, CO 80203

Gentlemen:

Section 7 of S.B. 439, 1981 Session (Chapter 426, Session

Laws of Colorado 1981) directed the Colorado Water Conservation

Board to study the Una Reservoir pro~~be located

on the Colorado River between DeBeque and parachute.^ Whe Board

contracted with R.W. Beck and Associates to perform the study,

the executive summary for which is enclosed herewith. The full

report is being printed and will be forwarded to you

subsequently.

The study demonstrates that the Una Dam and Reservoir,
including a 32 MW run-of-the-river power plant, would be

~

technically feasible,

The 189,000 acre-foot reservoir (active

capacity) would have an annual yield of 175,000 acre-feet which
would decline to 126,000 acre-feet over time as sediment reduced

the reservoir's storage capacity. The cost of constructing the

project is estimated at $181,588,000 in constant, 1982 dollars.

If inflation is taken into account over an assumed 8-9 year

design and construction schedule, the construction cost would be

$284,388,000. Financing costs would be in addition to this and

would vary as a function of the financing method employed.

190 .
una/d
