Hardin
Draft
1/5/83

Mr. Ted L. Strickland
President of the Senate
Colorado General Assembly
State Capitol
Denver, CO 80203

Mr. Carl B. Bledsoe
Speaker of the qouse of Representatives
Colorado General Assembly
State Capitol
Denver, CO 80203

Gentlemen:

Section 7 of S.B. 439, 1981 Session (Chapter 426, Session

Laws of Colorado 1981) authorized the Colorado Water Conservation

Board to conduct a study of the proposed Hardin Dam project.

This project would be located on the South Platte River about 25

miles east of Greeley. The 80ard contracted with Dames and Moore

to perform the study, the executive summary for which is

enclosed. The full report is being printed now and will be

transmitted subsequently.

The study focused on a project yielding 100,000 acre-feet

from a reservoir having 400,000 acre-feet of conservation

storage, both with and without a flood control pool of 200,000

acre-feet. The study indicates that such a dam and reservoir

would be technically feasible.

It is estimated that a project with 400,000 acre-feet of

conservation storage (but no flood pool) would cost, in constant

1982 dollars, $263,000,000 to construct. Accounting for

190
dft/har
