'/lU4

recently succeeded Mr. Jim Ogilvie, and, in
fact, as a newcomer to Colorado, that I am
privileged to meet with you this morning.

The Fryingpan-Arkansas Project was auth-
orized in 1962 as a multi-purpose project to
meet the needs of the Upper Arkansas Valley
for supplemental irrigation, domestic, indus-
trial and municipal water supplies, recreation,
flood control, and fish and wildlife purposes.

Construction started in July 1964 and
has continued at a fairly steady pace during
the past seven years. Construction-wise,
major features completed during those years
were Ruedi and Sugar Loaf dams and reservoirs,
South Fork and Chapman tunnels, numerous
access roads, and the relocation of State
Highway 96 and the D&RGW Railroad near Pueblo.
The 5.5 mile Divide Tunnel, now renamed the
Charles H. Boustead Tunnel, is nearing com-
pletion. Since June of last year, we have
awarded new contracts totaling $22.6 million,
including new starts on Pueblo Dam, Hunter
Tunnel, Nast Tunnel. a laboratory building
at Pueblo Dam, new road construction, old
road improvements, and aggregate production.
Just last month we awarded a contract for
$1,740,436 to manufacture, install and test
the pump-turbine for the powerplant at Twin
Lakes.

To give you a proper perspective on the
state of the project. I would like to show
some color slides and describe the status of
the features as you view them."

Mr. Evans used a screen and slides to illustrate this
part of his presentation.

MR.
