To aid in the effort to minimize flood loss vulnerability and reiated economic impacts we are
planning to prepare a Statewide DrainageIFloodplain:Management Criteria Manual. The manual
will help flood managers statewide to map and designate flood hazard areas, determine streams
susceptible to severe erosion and bank instability, identify flood mitigation measures, prepare
floodplain management plans, and assist local commUnities to establish consistent guidelines and
criteria regarding flood related engineering standards. An RFP has been advertised, and
consultant selection will occur by the end of January 2001. This is approximately a one year
contract.

The Flood Task Force is made up of 15 federal, state and private sector meteorology and
hydrology experts who contribute to an annual Colorado Flood Outlook. A monthly Flood
Outlook Report and cally flood data are posted on \he CWCB web page. The snowmelt runoff .

planning, and aid stream diversion operations to redu;ce flood losses.

The Flood Protection Program's role is to minimize Colorado's flood loss vulnerability and
related economic inlpacts. This is accomplished! by mapping floodplains, determination of
stream hydraulic and hydrologic characteristics, the identification of 100-year floodplain areas,
the preparation of floodplain management plans, and by assisting local communities to establish
flood mitigation measures. This grant will specifically assist with floodplain mapping projects in
the Town of Pierce, Eagle County, the City of Blackhawk, and the Town of Otis.
