dams that have been built by the United States
Bureau of Reclamation. We consider it to be
the outstanding firm in its particular field.

At the conclusion of these new investiga-
tions, the consultants rendered a report to
this Board on March 11, 1964, stating conclu-
sions essentially as follows:

1. That the percolation of water through
and around the dams at either site would be
essentially the same unless positive cutoff
were accomplished.

2. That positive cutoff could be accom-
plished at the Weld County site but could not
be accomplished at the Narrows site.

3. That from purely geologic considera-
tions the Weld County site was preferable to
the Narrows site.

Based upon the information contained in
the report of our consultants, we requested
the Bureau of Reclamation to make new compara-
tive cost estimates of the two reservoir sites,
with the understanding that these new esti-
mates would be reviewed and reported upon by
our consultants.

The information presented by the consul-
tants indicated that the alluvial deposits
along the axis of the Weld County site extended
to a greater depth than was originally esti-
mated, but that positive cutoff could be
obtained by complete excavation and replacement
of these alluvial materials.

We have on this wall over here, a profile
of the two dam sites. The cross patch area at
the top is the portion of the structure (the
upper one being Weld County and the lower one
being the Narrows) which would be above the
present surface of the earth. The part in
yellow (pointing) represents the alluvial de-
posits. As you can see from those charts, on
the Narrows site the old channel of the South

I

I
