of getting in there and getting some informa-
tion but in one year you can hardly hope to
get enough information to do a real good job
of design. I thilli, that Leo Gamble and Jim
Ogilvie's office are really on the spot. No
one is to blame; funds aren't available for
a situation like this; but I think that some
serious thought should be given by everyone to
a condition of this kind where a project is in
the mill and there is a good prospect of it
being approved eventually, that some place along
the line, from somewhere, we should be able to
collect this information. It is a matter of
financing and the Bureau of Reclamation, after
authorization, put up the money to finance these
stations. The Geological Survey is very limited;
they have no authorization to step in and per-
form work of this kind. The State of Colorado
is limited by their appropriations.

I

I just wanted to point this out so that
everyone can see the seriousness of something
of this kind and realize the spot that it puts
these people in when they start designing.
They have, like I say, limited records for one
year and a good deal of their design is going
to have to be based on that. They can correlate
records and have something to go on. Unfor-
tunately we didn't get the peak runoff on all
these stations. This is something that is
pretty hard to do in anyone year in this par-
ticular site when the peak happens to occur. We
had a couple of men up there and I can't give
them too much credit for the job they did in
getting this information. I believe that Russ
vfuiteman has furnished tentative figures of run-
off to the Pueblo office of the Bureau so they
do have something to go on and I certainly hope
it is enough. I am sure that everyone should
realize that they are handicapped in what they
have to work with.

I

This past winter we worked on a report on
mineral and water resources of Colorado at the
request of Senator Allott. This report has
been submitted and \~ill be published as a Senate
