request of this Board, in conformity with the
request of the two local conservancy districts
in the San Luis Valley, that the entire cost
of the project, including operation and mainte-
nance, be borne by the federal government.
Naturally, this is creating some problems inso-
far as the Commissioner of Reclamation is con-
erned. The ultimate cost would be about $8
million and an annual operation is several
hundred thousand dollars. The question of
whether or not the federal government is going
to bear this entire cost is a critical one inso-
far as the eventual acceptance of the report is
concerned.

vle have what is known as the Rio Grande
Salvage Project to which the State Board has
contributed a considerable amount of money in
past years. On this salvage project, the field
work is now completed and we anticipate a final
report on that project in the near future.

I think that is the only thing Of any
particular interest. I am always disturbed at
the implications that the San Juan-Chama project
is a Colorado project and I notice that in the
Public Works Appropriations Bill, just recently
approved by the House committee, that the listing
for this project is carried under appropriations
to the State of Colorado. I hope to get that
straightened out because this is not an appro-
priation for the State of Colorado."
