Mr. Burr~ Thank you.

~tr. Stapleton, The next thing then would be our future board meetings.
We have tentatively scheduled one for August I and 2. What is August 1,
day of the week?

Mr. Sparks' August 1 and 2 are Thursday and Friday.

I

Hr. Stapleton: And what will we be doing at that meeting?

Mr. Sparks: The principal item will be to hear from the two oil com-
panies who plan immediate development to tap the oil shale resources
of the Parachute Creek area; namely, the Colony Company and the Union
Oil Company. We have heard a great deal about the water requirements
and we have heard a great deal about the environmental impact. We will
continue to hear for a number of years about the potential adverse
environmental impact of this industry, particularly as it relates to
the disposal of the spent shale. We are asking both of these two com-
panies to make a presentation to our board outlining their plans, their
water requirements and how they intend to avoid water pollution and
the problems of disposing the spent shale. They have offered to take
the board to their research sites so that we can see what they are
actually doing in the disposal and revegetation field. One day would
be devoted entirely to a field trip in the Parachute Creek area to
look at the actual operations now going on and those contemplated by
those two companies.

Mr. Stapleton: When is Colorado Day this year?

Mr. Ten Evck: It used to be August I. I think it is the first Monday
in August. I was going to ask the same question.

~tr. Stapleton: All right, so that it will be for state employees a
holiday that next Monday. Is that right?

~tr. Helton: August 5.

Mr. Stapleton: Well, it doesn't really have any impact on those that
\jork for a living: Larry, I hope I didn't offend you by that remark.

I

Mr. Sparks: If I were easily offended, I wouldn't be in this job:

(laughter)

Mr. Stapleton: All right. Is there any objection to that meeting in

-42-
