that unless we could get some issues resolved that we might have to
abandon the project.

Members of the staff and I have met repeatedly during the last year
with both the Bureau of Reclamation and the Dolores Water Conservancy
District Board. I am very, very happy to report to the hoard that we
received a letter which was sent out earlier to you this wee]{, in which
the board of directors indicate that they have reached an accommodation
concerning the water supply. More significantly, this accorrmoda-
tion is agreeable to the Montezuma Valley Irrigation District. That
is ,'lhere the problem has been. They have asked here that we approve
this water supply allocation. We consider that it is their primary
responsibility in the first place. We don't really have anything to
do with the water supply allocation, per se. It is solely within the
province of the local boards to make that determination. But they
have been unable to make it up to this point and that is the reason
we have been trying to assist them. So we do ask that the board approve
the request contained in this letter that we approve the water supply
allocation contained in the request of the Dolores Water Conservancy
District under date of June 12, 1974, and that I be authorized to draw
up an appropriate resolution approving this request. I~. Maynes, I am
sure from that area, would probably like to say something on it.

I

Mr. Stapleton: Would you like to put it in the form of a motion first?

~tr. Mavnes: I so move, 11r. Chairman.

Mr. Stapleton: May I have a second?

~tr. Cornelius: I second it.

~tr. Stapleton: Now, discussion.

Mr. Mavnes: Let me say that I think that the Dolores Water Conservancy
District and the Montezuma Valley Irrigation Company have taken a large
step towards going ahead with the Dolores project. I am delighted
today that we have three board members from the Dolores board, f1r. Bruce
11cAfee, the vice president. Bruce, will you stand up please. Mr. Ed
Gilliland, board member, Mr. Paul Fury, board member, and I~. George
Armstrong, the attorney for the Dolores Water Conservancy District,
as well as Mr. Walter Posey, who works in that area with the Dolores
Water Conservancy District. We are now looking forward to the Bureau
of Reclamation coming out with the definite plan report on the Dolores
project, so that hopefully we can be in the position of asking for
construction funds on the Dolores project as soon as possible.

I

-40-
