"Normally, is there a time interval between
the notification and the actual closing of the
gaging station? How does that work?"

"There usually is. Now most of these - the
station on Cebolla Creek near Powderhorn, for
instance, I only learned yesterday the funds
would not be forthcoming to continue the station
so in that event there is very little notifica-
tion that can be given - we make it a point to
advise people informally if we have reason to
believe they would have a special interest in
them and might be able to arrange for financing
to continue the operation."

"!'lhat is a conductivity station?"

"Maybe I'd better let Leonard Wood answer
that question. He can probably give a more
detailed answer on that than I could."

"This conductivity station he is talking about
is a recording meter which gives a continuous
record of the specific conductance of the water
which is an indication of the quality. These
stations along the Arkansas will help to docu-
ment the changes in quality as you move downstream
from Canon City to the state line. Usually you
can make some calculation. Perhaps.7 of the
specific conductance will give you the dissolved
solids. It is usually in some ratio like that.
This is more of an index than a definite analysis."
