GVDsum field work and ulans for Summer 06: DRD Science coordinator Jim Siscoe
discussed long tenn goals and Summer 06 field objectives in a power point with aerial images, and photo
points. The primary objectives will be to gather baseline information on the 10 miles of the river within
the study area. Dr. David Merritt of the USFS Stream Team engage the field work applying his seed
dispersal methodology within the TNC "5S" framework. Work will be conducted by interns from the
Fort Lewis College Biology Department and reviewed by the DRD Core Science Team. There was
discussion that Big Gyp is one an a series of study sites that will need to be established as part of the
DRD process. Vem Harrell indicated that the BOR plans to ortho-rectify the videography that they
funded for the 200 miles of River from McPhee Dam to the Colorado River. The other possibility down
the road would be the application of color spectrum photography. This combination of tools will greatly
expedite the inventory process that is very expensive and time consuming to do in the field.

Suill Forecast for Surim! 2006 - Vem Harrell presented the updated forecast for a small spill with 800-
1000 cfs boating flows climaxing over Memorial Day weekend and four days projected to begin June 6 of
400 cfs flows to accommodate a CDOW longitudinal fish shocking survey in Slick Rock Canyon (Reach
5). Vem emphasized that is just a forecast and that the actual quantity and timing of small spills are
difficult to accurately predict.

Fish Survevs - In addition to the Slick Rock Canyon survey described above, the DOW intends to set up
three more "1,000 foot stations" for mark and recapture surveys done annually at more accessible
locations below the pumps. at Pyramid and downstream of La Salle Creek. These stations will
complement work at the Big Gyp site. and the more occasional Slick Rock Canyon Surveys. The DOW
will also be checking for peak warm water fish spawning dates to relate timing of spills to impact on the
spawning cycle.

.

Other Field Onuortunities for Summer 06 and bevond - The Colorado Dept. of Agriculture will be
experimenting with biological Tamarisk control on Reach 7.
