These funds have been allocated for the preparation of floodplain-mapping
projects in Basalt, Delta County, Eagle County, Gunnison County, and Weld County,

Contracts have been approved for three ofthe five projects: 1) topographic mapping for streams in Gunnison
County as part of a cooperative effort with the county and the Corps of Engineers; 2) development of
floodplain and erosion mapping in the Town of Basalt; 3) Eagle County has conducted part of the
topographic mapping needed for a floodplain mapping study on the Eagle River/Colorado River corridor
along 1,70 between Minturn and the Garfield County line near Dotsero and Glenwood Canyon. The Eagle
County study will be performed during the summer and fall of 2002,

Work has not yet begun for the other two projects, Meetings will be conducted this winter with Delta
County and with Weld County to develop specific scopes of work for those two counties,

2001 Flood Documentation Report: CWCB staff has hired URS Engineering to document several flood
events in Colorado that occurred during the 2001 flood season, Funding is being provided from the Flood
Emergency Response Fund, Documentation will be provided for the following locations: Colorado Springs,
Greeley, Holyoke, MeekerIRio Blanco County, New Castle, Palisade/Grand Valley, San Miguel Connty. All
of those locations experienced some type of flooding and/or debris flows that were generally caused by
intense rainstorms, The draft report is scheduled for completion by March 2002.

Statewide Drainage and Floodplain Management Criteria Manual: WRC Engineering is well underway
with completing Phase I tasks outlined in its scope of services for the Statewide Criteria Manual. A new
project manager has been hired by WRC to take over the essential functions ofproject development and
delivery. Excellent progress has been made to date and a number of draft chapters have been submitted to us
for review. We anticipate that Phase I will be completed this spring. Funding for Phase II is included in the
2002 Projects Bill.

DARCA: A new Ditch and Reservoir Company Alliance (DARCA) has been formed. It will be dedicated to
serving the needs of Colorado's mutual ditch and reservoir companies, lateral companies, irrigation districts
and all other types of private ditch delivery organizations, DARCA believes that ditch companies must
navigate an increasingly complex course in the 21 st century, Urbanization pressures require ditch companies
to confront issues never imagined by company founders more than a century ago, Adding low crop prices
and regulatory requirements to the mix pushes some companies to the brink, They have a web site where you
can get more information: www, darca, org. or you can contact Karen Rademacher, the Executive Director in
care ofDARCA, 13500 Weld County Road 13, Longmont, CO 80504, Phone: (970) 535-4996.
