CALDER: Good morning. It is a privilege to be here. I would like <br />to take a few minutes and make some comments concerning thesstatus of <br />the Bureau of Reclamation activities with respect: to the salinity proj- <br />ect. Most of you are already familiar with this. <br /> <br />First with'respect to planning activities, the Bureau of Reclamation <br />is awarding today a $223,000 contract to a Denver consulting engineer- <br />ing firm. The title of it is CH2M Hill, Incorporated, to identify, <br />study, and,evaluate the alternatives,which implemented, would elimi- <br />nate or greatly reduce the current, salinity considerations of the <br />White River and the Meeker Dome area. <br /> <br />I rilight say that'this.is a first. of its kind for the'Bureau of <br />Reclamation in this area. Public meetings will.beheld in Meeker: next <br />month to provide details of the contract to the local people and to <br />obtain input and .to discuss alternatives. <br /> <br />The Lower Gunnison Unit, this project is in the first stage of the <br />planning, which involves collecting and evaluating data for the <br />Uncompahgre Valley around Delta and Montrose: ' Later;. similar studies <br />will be conducted around paonia and Crawford~ The feasibility report <br />is scheduled for December, 1981, and the Draft Environmental Statement <br />by January of 1982. <br /> <br />Glenwood-Dotsero Springs Unit, under current plans. The feasibility <br />level investigations will also be conducted by the water resources I <br />consultant under a special service contract similar. to the one that <br />we are awarding today for Meeker Dome.
