MR. VANDEMOER: I mOve that we approve-the floodplain reports as set
forth in the agenda.

MR. GORMLEY: Second.

MR. STAPLETON: Is' there any further discussion? (NO response.)

All in favor signify by saying "Aye."
opposed? (NO response.)

(Unanimous ayes.) Those

- The -floodplain r'eports, four of them are approved.
C through F.)

(See Appendices

Now, we have a presentation to make to a former member of this board.
Mr. John Bent6n. -

John, we are delighted to see you here today. Larry, would you make
the presentation 6n behalf -Of the Board?

MR. SPARKS: John, on behalf of the Board,- for your'-very good service,
we have a momento for you. John 'served_ starting in 1974 as a.member
of this board until last year. Over my years on the Board, wa have had
some fine representatives from the mains tern of the Colorado Rivet,,. and,
John, you are one of them. I know the Board and the_pepple of that
area appreciate your support and the assistance you gave -t.o_~this board,
and it is continuing.'

What I try to do is keep our ex-board members active by putting them
on committees here and there. John is on the weather modification
committee. That is keeping him pretty busy.
,

JOhn, it is a pleasure, on behalf of the staff and the members of this
board, to present to you this picture of Glen Canyon Dam. I might add
that we have' won the lates't round, in :that lawsuit. We' have been in .
litigation almost forever on Glen Canyon. We have won again, tempo~
rarily at least, until somebody else brings an actioh to stop us from
storing water in the dam. We think that the water is beautiful,t.1iere,
and I am sure you -agree with us. As: a tribute to your service on the
Board, we would like to present you with this picutre of the Rainbow
Bridge and the water from Glen Canyon Reservoir and to give you your
old plaque, which formerly adorned this table. (Laughter.)

MR. BENTON: Thank you, -Larry. (Appl'ause.) That is a very 'lovely
picture, and I do sincerely appreciate my opportunity to serve with
all these gentlemen on the Board.

I was listening, to CBS news this morning. It seems they found a trans-
parent salamander that is blind and eats bat 'dung down around San'
Antonio, Texas, so they can't build a dam down there, because it,would
endanger this particular blind transparent salamander. You gentlemen
on the Board still have your work cut out for you. I hope you don't
find any of those in Colorado. (Laughter.)

-26-

I

I
