<br />Two municipal grants for pilot demonstration projects have been awarded through the Office of Water
<br />Conservation. The fIrst grant in the amount of $7,000 to Woodmaor Water and Sanitation for water conservation
<br />education; and the second grant in the amount of$9,650 to Oak Creek Elementary for xeriscaping and outdoor
<br />classroom demonstrations, Both projects are now complete, The county has also participating in creating a water
<br />conservation plan.

<br />Instream Flow Water Rights appropriated exclusively in this county total 39 miles and six stream segments,
<br />

<br />This county has 22 Designated Floodplain Studies affecting 166 stream reaches, In regard to Flood Mitigation, five
<br />studies have been requested. They also participate in the National Flood Insurance Program and are part of the
<br />NFIP Conununity Rating System, Concern has been expressed about rapid growth in areas with approximate
<br />floodplain mapping like the Black Squirrel Creek Basin, New study proposal for Black Squirrel Creek Basin, There
<br />is a Stream restoration proposal on Fountain Creek. Major erosion and flooding problems on the Fountain Creek
<br />triggered A Presidential Disaster Declaration in 1999, FEMA mitigation funds have been granted for various
<br />hazard reduction projects in Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs, New hydrologic analyses are being conducted
<br />for Fountain Creek along with channel stability studies.

<br />Fremont County is located in Arkansas River Basin and is affected by the Arkansas River Compact, the southeastern
<br />Colorado Water Conservancy District Future Water Storage and Needs Assessment Study (Phase I was completed in
<br />December, 1998, Phase II in progress), and the U,S, Forest Service Federal Reserved Water Rights Claims for Water
<br />Division 2. The county will be affected by the outcome of the Kansas vs Colorado litigation
