Similar filtering can be
performed with surface water diversion and stor~ge rights. '
It is at this poirit iri the project that a meeting betWeen CWCB, the Advisory Committee and the
Bouvette Consulting Team is vi,tal to:

o Review the water user profiles and contact database for completeness

o Discuss the results of the various focused database queries (such as the ones
presented above and below); and

o Utilize the, database querles, selec~ target groups artd populations for survey
deployment - both for testing, and pr~Jiminarily for final survey administration.

The importance of this meeting cmnot be oversl:\'essed, sirice thiS ~orking session will mark the
first time that the project participants will be able to view and evaluate, iri real time, the size of
various target populations, and the attributes of those populations. And it is only with the '.
insight afford.ed by the viewing of the va~ious queries, coupled with the knowledge of the
available project resources, that decisions can be made regarding survey reach, distribution, and
target populations.

An example of the power of the queries is pro0ded through the analysis of data provided by
'the Colorado Department of Public Healt:4 and the Environment (CDPHE) iri May 2000 as
presented iri Table 4-3. These data iridicate that pf the 2,200 plus water systems iri the State. less
than 3% serve more than 10,000 residents; lII\d less than one third serve more than 175 people.

Table 4.3: Summary o~ Wa.ter System Information by Basin,
Water Quali Control DivisionMa 2000

i . .
Number of Communltv Water Bv,.tems Non-Community Water Systems
t.lum~r Serving Number Number
Water Serving , Number Serving Serving
> 10,000' >176 > 10,000 >176
S stems Number Residents Residents Number Residents Residents
Arkansas/Rio Grande River
Watersheds 698 ' 216 9 121 383 0 66
South Piette River Watershed 913 326 34 180 688 1 117
Lower Colorado River Watershed 362 145 , 6 74 207 0 32
U r Colorado River Watershed 338 138 2 61 202 0 41
Total. 2201 821 : 61 436 1380 1 266

Percentage of Total 37.3% 2.3% 19.8% 62.7% 0.0% 11.8%

Parcenta e of Se ment 6,2% 63.1% 0.1% 18.8%
Notes: Community Water Systel)ls sa,rve 26 year.round resl<tents or more; Non.Communlty Water Systems relate to hospitals, schools,
workplaces workplaces, campgrounds, restaurants, hotels, etc. .

.

Section 4;, Page 10
,
