$7,000 requested, cut to $6,875, for a cut" of
$125. This, also, we can live with. 'Travel
and Subsistence', requested, $14,050, amount
authorized $9,000 for a cut of $5,050. This is
the first serious cut which is going to give us
some trouble.

We are going to have to curtail a good deal
of our travel. I don't know how we can carry
out all of the responsibilities that are placed
upon the staff, on the staff and Board both,
particularly considering the fact that this
agency is the agency of the state dealing with
other states and with federal agencies so that
necessarily a good deal of our travel is out-of-
state. This seemed the general criticism in
the areas in which cuts were made in all other
budgets - to curtail out-of-state travel. We'll
do the best we can with what's available. Some
of these out-of-state meetings we'll have to
miss and we will not be up-to-date on some of
the things that are going on in the other states
and in some of the federal agencies."

"It may be that we are going to have to cur-
tail meetings of this Board outside of Denver."

"I think this would be a must. It seems to
me that this would preclude any meeting outside
Denver in the next fiscal year unless the Board
sees fit to further cut staff travel so that the
Board may meet outside Denver."

"This was one of the big disappointments to
me. As you know, I was up with you and Larry
for the budget hearings and I just feel that we
probably didn't present as good a case as we
should have inasmuch as this Board is different
in many material respects than other agencies of
the state government. They cut all budgets in
this area as you indicated. If this had happened
during the hearings on the Fryingpan~Arkansas
last year I don't know where we would have been.
I think the travel to washington is certainly a
must and one that the state relies on heavily.
I presume there is nothing we can do about it
