........,....

MR. STAPLETON:

NR. SPARKS:

MR. STAPLETON:

MR. ODELL:

On the Closed Basin report we have been
working closely with Nr. Kuiper on that. There
is no reason Why that shouldn't go right along.

In view of all the hollering about drought
here I think I ought to do a little hollering.
It looks like we'll have about 50% all through
the Valley but we are good groundwater-wise.
Now that's going to have a kickback. If this
is a repetition of '51 and '52, which it looks
to me like it will be, we'll be short compact-
wise 25,000 acre-feet this year; next year, with
a good runoff, 150,000 short; that's 175,000
added to your present 721,000, so you can see
what a terrible position Colorado is going to
be in compact-wise the following year, starting
wi th this dry year.

I

That's about all I have, Ben. Thank you."

"Thank you, Bud. Any comments?"

"vIe're glad you're so cheerful:"

"Hearing none, I'll ask Jack Odell to give
us the U. S. Geological Survey report. Nr.
Odell. "

"Mr. Chairman, members of .the Board, guests,
the Geological Survey now has started preliminary
work on the groundwater observation network on
the western slope. That is under way at the
present time and during the next fiscal year we
expect to expand it considerably.

There are several groundwater reports that
have been released to the open file and which
later will be published. One is 'Prospects for
Irrigation in Eastern Cheyenne and Kiowa Counties'.
This was completed and copies were transmitted
to the Water Board about the middle of Narch.
A second one 'Records, Logs, and Water-Level
Neasurements of Selected Wells and Test Holes,
and Chemical Analyses of Ground Water in Bent
County', should be completed during the week of
Nay 6th (that's this week). It has been desig-
nated as Basic-Data Report No. 14.

I
