Now we'll go to the report of the federal
agencies and we will call on Jim Knights from
Region 7, please. Jim."

MR. KNIGHTS:

"Mr. Chairman, members of the Board, visitors,
I've divided our Region 7 report up a little
differently than we have heretofore. I'll talk
about investigations first and then go to con-
struction and other matters.

I

On our investigations, I think probably the
Narrows is the first thing of interest. We held
a meeting down there at Ft. Morgan on the 14th
of March at which Senator Allott toured the
Narrows area itself and following that, on the
19th of March, was a meeting of the regular
Steering Committee at which time the Bureau
reported on their findings to the Board and to
the visitors that were assembled at that meet-
ing. It was quite a large meeting, with a great
deal of interest, and we presented all of the
facts that we had available to enable the
steering Committee to come to some conclusions.
They had another meeting on the 23rd of April,
after having studied the data prepared and pre-
sented to them on the 19th. On the 23rd they
were still unable to come to definite conclu-
sions. however, we did come to a general con-
clusion to the effect that the investigations,
insofar as the economics and the hydrology were
concerned, were so nearly the same and so nearly
covered the areas that we could go ahead, and
the state would desire the Bureau to go ahead,
with those studies based on the assumption the
Narrows axis was the primary axis to be consid-
ered, the primary site to be considered. Not
definitely, however, eliminating the Weld County
from further consideration as an alternate.

I

In connection with those studies the state
will undertake to make a survey of the Valley to
determine the probable line - boundaries - of
the conservancy district that could be formed to
contract with the federal government for the
project. That would comprise essentially two
possibilities, still considering that Weld
County might be an alternate to the Narrows
