I

I

determination of the sum required to do something
other than to simply put it on the paper? In
other words, to do something that is at least
helpful. I think that we can get money from the
South Platte people but I surely would take a
pretty adamant stand on the Water Board saying
we're not going to do anything for Two Forks."

MR. PETERSON:

"Mr. Chairman, I'd like to ask this question,
does the Bureau of Reclamation, whom I assume
will do this investigating of both projects, have
in their budget matching funds for this or any
funds for it?"

MR. SPARKS:

"They do not. The Bureau has requested funds
in the future. What we had hoped to do is to
start off with state funds on both these projects
this year and using that as a basis for request-
ing funds from the Congress starting this next
fiscal year. But in the next fiscal year budget
it is expected the Bureau will ask for funds.

Now there are some carryover funds that we
have in this South Platte study which will be
available this year on the Two Forks. It's
rather small in amount but we have definitely
contemplated going ahead with the Two Forks with
the small amount of carryover funds plus whatever
contributions we could get from the metropolitan
area. II

MR. PETERSON:

"Mr. Kuiper made the statement that it might
be necessary to go back to Congress in behalf
of the Wilderness Bill, or in opposition to the
wilderness Bill whichever it happens to be, and
that that travel expense would come out of the
\'Jater Board's budget. I would think that that
particular expense should come out of the Depart-
ment of Natural Resources inasmuch as this Wilder-
ness Bill effects not only the water but other
agencies and interests of the State of Colorado.

As long as we are getting down here talking
about dimes, it looks like, it seems like we
should be watching those things.
