MR. STAPLETON:

I

MR. SPARKS:

DR. GARNSEY:

MR. STAPLETON:

DR. GARNSEY:
MR. BARNARD, JR.:
MR. STAPLETON:

l::lb'd

him an answer within thirty days?
that there was a schedule here to
April 1st."

I notice
start on

"Our thought, Larry, would be to get some
recommendation within that period of time.
Wouldn't that be correct?"

"The staff has already given it some
thought and we will prepare and send a recom-
mendation to the Board within the next ten'
days."

"We would, of course, be glad to discuss
with Mr. Sparks and the staff any aspect of
this proposal in any detail. To discuss the
budget and possible revisions or modifications
of the budget at their convenience. We are
at their disposal for that purpose."

"Thank you, Dr. Garnsey. What I want
the Director to do is make sure that we co-
ordinate all the efforts of every group in
Colorado to the point that when we come
through with the reports'it will not be a
duplication and will be accepted by all of
us as a great advancement in this very great
problem. "

"Thank you very much."

"Mr. Chairman."

"Mr. Barnard."

MR. BARNARD, JR.: "This is perhaps presuming on what will
happen when the recommendation is made. I
would like to comment very briefly that while
we have started to get funds for necessary
immediate engineering and legal studies on
particular emergency problems, I think per-
sonally that one of the most serious defects
in our past programs has been the lack of
basic research. IVhile I would hate to see
any interference with programs that are of an
immediate urgency and of an extreme practical
nature, I urge very strongly that we make
every effort to bring about the institution
of this program of basic research."

I

MR. STAPLETON:

"Thank you Mr. Barnard. I am sure that
the speakers know of our genuine interest and
we just want to ooordinate this along the
proper lines.
