go to meet the future municipal and light:iridustrial needs of,the
Uncompahgre Valley. This slide shows the various allocations for that
use. For instance, the city of Montrose, 10,000 acre-feet; Olathe,
800 acre-feet; Delta, 3,700 acre-feet; and the rural areas within the
project area, 8,100, and light industrial use, 5,500. These figures are
not sacred as to the allocation. They can be adjusted when the future
needs materialize.

The city of Montrose is nearing its ultimate capacity from its present
sources of water. The water supply provided by the Dallas Creek proj-
ect will aid in the desired growth of this community, as well as Olathe
and Delta.

In addition to water for cities, the Tri-County Water Conservancy Dis-
trict will use project supplies for its, rural customers. The. District
is presently constructing its rural system and has already installed
about 1,500 new taps out of a total anticipated future need of 4,500
taps.

The Dallas Creek project will supply an average of 11,200 acre-feet for
supplemental service to presently irrigated lands. Most of this water
is for the area,of the existing Uncompahgre project. The Uncompahgre
project, as mentioned at the dedication yesterday, is one of the oldest
and most successful reclamation projects and grows a wide variety, of
crops.

.
This is just a general view taken of the Uncompahgre project area.
Other project service will aid in the production of sugar beets and
other crops near Colona. Project storage will allow for water ex-
changes to give a better sPPpJy tD irrigated lands upstream from the
reservoir as well as downstream in the area near Dallas Creek. This is
a beet field near ColDna.

~-~.

The total project cost is now estimated at $54,000,000 with a benefit-
cost ratio of approximately 1.8:1.

Funding for project construction last fiscal year was $1,057,000 and
$450,000 this year for the months of July, August, and September. Our
budget for the fiscal. year of '77 contains $4,500,000 tD continue
project construction.

The Bureau will follow an ambitious schedule to finish matters pre-
liminary to the start Df construction. This is our present projected
schedule for completing the necessary main items to initiate that con-
struction. I"would like to take a brief time to run through it.

First of all, the draft environmental statement was filed with the
Council on Environmental Quality on March 8, 1976. A public hearing
was held on this draft in Montrose on April 17, 1976. We anticipate
completion of the final environmental. statement and filing with the
C.E.Q. in March '77, a repayment contract election in May '77,
validation of the contract in June '77, with initiation of the con-
struction in June '77, consisting of purchase of right-of-way and a
contract agreement for construction of the relocated highway, and award

-4-

I

I
