I

I

Fruitland Mesa? I might say, Mr. Goldsmith, that I made some remarks
that apply also to projects that are not as far along as yours. We
are going to push those also. I rem~mber the Yellow Jacket project,
which is up in northwestern Colorado, which you may be familiar with.
Senator and Governor Ed Johnson was here for many meetings plugging
t~at. Those things and others are going to be considered. With this
~eeting we are not precluding the advancement of other projects too.

~tr. GoldsQith: Could I construe that as opening the door just enough
to let me mention that there is such a thing as the Grand Mesa proj-
ect in western Colorado and I hope this board will begin to get used
to that term after you get this big problem out of your way, Mr.
Chairman.

Mr. Stapleton: All right, thank you very much.

Mr. Goldsmith: We haven't persuaded you of anything else, but it
would be fair to assume that we have persuaded you that we really
want the Fruitland Mesa project.

Mr. Stapleton: You have done that adequately.

Mr. Goldsmith: Thank you.

Mr. Stapleton: Now we will go to the next one which is the Narrows.
Monte Pascoe will present that.

Mr. P~scoe: Mr. Chairman and members of the board, the Lower South
Platte Water Conservancy District appreciates this opportunity to
appear before you. We believe that the Narrows is a superior project
which merits the highest priority consideration and the earliest
possible funding. I shall try to relate to you why we believe this
to be so.

My name is Monte Pascoe and I have been counsel for the district since
its creation in 1964. I should like to state at this time, and many
of you are already aware of it, that I practice law with Mr. Stapleton,
the chairman, and I think it is appropriate and proper that people
be advised of this. The district's directors have asked that I make
this statement. We have circulated a statement to each member of
the board. For those in the audience, there are a few copies of the
~tatement over with the other papers here on the stage. We have a
number of persons present today from the area that will be served by
the Narrows project. I would like to introduce them to you.

-50-
