I

I

h. Increased state income and sales tax - $100,000.

i. Additional county revenues from tax on farm property - $200,000.

4. Assessed value of Montezuma and Dolores counties will increase by
an estimated $14,000,000 resulting from direct investment in farm
property, expanded business, personal property as a result of
new families with automobiles, trucks, boats, homes and house
trailers.

In this statement reflecting the many features of the Dolores project,
we have not endeavored to present the technical engineering and
financial criteria as set forth in reclamation law for the Dolores
project, as this information is readily available to you as a board
from your staff and the Bureau of Reclamation. However, it is appar-
ent that the Dolores project is well rounded and feasible under
present guidelines for construction. To re-emphasize our project,
we have provided for the following:

1. Municipal, domestic and industrial water use for the project area.

2. Supplemental water for the present Montezuma Valley Irrigation Co.

3. Municipal, domestic, industrial and irrigation water for the Ute
Mountain tribe of Indians.

4. Irrigation water for new lands (now dryfarmed) under an innovative
pressure sprinkler system.

5. A stabilized "Dolores River" that will not deter, but enhance the
opportunities of conservationists and environmentalists.

6. Recreation facilities and improvement of present fish and wildlife
considerations.

7. An establishment of a sound economic base for southwestern Colo-
rado and the state as well.

Before closing this statement, we are pleased to report that negotia-
tions for the necessary water rights to build the Dolores project
are well under way and sufficient water for the project is tentatively
assured. We have with us members of the board of directors of the
Montezuma Valley Irrigation Company who have agreed to appear before
this board with us.

-34-
