very good economic position to be self-sufficient.

Mr. Geissinqer: What is the breakdown on the 80,000? Can you tell
how much is for industrial use, and how much is for irrigation?

Mr. Mavnes: Well, the Ute Mountain Ute tribe has approximately 6,000
acres of land under the Animas-La Plata project which would be irri- I
gated. And I think I am saying correctly, if not, I have a good sound
man over here in the person of Mr. Tyner that will correct me, that
the industrial water and the irrigation water in terms of the 80,000
acre-feet is about equally divided. Is that correct, Bob, or incor-
rect?

Mr. Tvner: Yes, it is equally divided between the two tribes. 53,000
acre-feet of water for development of coal resources by the two
tribes.

Mr. Maynes: 53,000 acre-feet, I will say then for your records for
coal resource development. I think it is a legal obligation
and a moral obligation.

Mr. Berthelson: Both?

Mr. Maynes: Yes.

Mr. Berthelson: In other words, the Congress did definitely by the
wording in SOI(b), or whatever it is, obligate itself to fund the
five projects concurrently with the Arizona project?

Mr. Maynes: That is exactly right. I think it would be well for
this board and perhaps for other people in the state of Colorado to
look in some of the minutes and some of the hard fought negotiations
that the state of Colorado was engaged in at that time in regards to
obtaining that commitment from the United States Congress, because

I

-19-
