. .. r~
Memo to: Colorado Water CO"tiervation Board
721 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, CO 80203
Attn:Greg Espergen

,-.,
~.. ;~

,
,

RECEIVED
FEB 0 8 1999

,
1

e

From: Marilynn Burger
922 Hunter Circle
PO Box 2576
Frisco, CO 80443

Colorado Wafer
Conservation Board

Re: Miner's Creek

"Commit No Nuisance"
There is an old sign along Miner's Creek that says "Commit No Nuisance." It is battered and hard
to read but I think it speaks loudly to the issue of preservation of a beautiful, pristine water course
that need to be saved.

One of my favorite walks near my home is along Miner's Creek. At all times of the year it rushes
and bubbles it's way down the mountain and provide pleasure to people, water for wildlife and
moisture to the forest. A delight in Spring is to look for and find Fairy Slippers (Calypso bulbosa, a
member of the Orchid Family) along the boggy shores of this creek.

Miner's Creek also feeds many small ponds and lakes. These are home to beavers, muskrats and
migrating ducks. I am not a fisherman but I do see people, mostly youngsters fishing in Rainbow _
Lake and in Bill's Ranch Lake. From what I gather, to a true fisherman it is not whether you actuall~
catch anything but the pleasure of being outdoors communing with nature. These two little lakes fill
the bilL

There is another old sign that I love along Miner's Creek that says "Dump No Rubbish." This is also
battered but it does show that at some point someone or some agency cared enough about this
water source to want to protect it and keep it clean and flowing.

I think these signs tell the story eloquently in an old colloquial turn of phrase. Should we not in this
day and age of withering resources care enough to protect and preserve this water source as well?

Sincerely,

~~ ~.~~

Marilynn Burger, a Friend of Miner's Creek

e
