<br />The Director reported that the appropriation of $3,000,000, which
<br />had been approved by the HoUse, was raised to $5,000,000. The matter,
<br />he said, went to Conference Conmli ttee and the Conference Connnittee split
<br />the difference and the result was $4,~Jo,000 appropriated to the Bureau
<br />for investigations.

<br />Director Stone gave the following figures for pojects in Colorado
<br />for fiscal 1953. These figures, he explained, include both new
<br />appropriation and carryover funds.

<br />Thereupon, the Director proceeded to report on Item 9(c), "llodifications
<br />of Land Limitation Provisions of Federal Reclamation Law as they affect
<br />the San Luis Valley Project."

<br />Director Stone reported that after all other efforts to solve this
<br />land limitation provision for the San. Luis Valley and to meet the
<br />immediate situation on the Colorado project had failed, we were advised,
<br />after conferences with our Senators, that it would be desirable to introduce
<br />another bill to secure these modifications. Such a bill, he explained,
<br />had passed formerly, but was vetoed by the President. The Director
<br />stated that S. 2610, providing that the excess land provisions of the
<br />Federal Reclamation laws which apply to certain land that will receive
<br />a supplemental or regulated water supply from the San Luis Valley Project,
<br />ColoradO, was again introduced and passed by the House and the Senate;
<br />and this time the bi II was signed by the President.

<br />The Director then read the text of S. 2610.

<br />Item 10 on the agenda, "Report to the Board on discussions held by the
<br />Board staff with Bureau of Reclamation, with respect to the plan approved by
<br />the Board for Gunnison River Storage, as a unit of the Colorado River Stor-
<br />age Project," was taken up next.

<br />The Director stated that, in accordance with the directive given him
<br />at the meeting on May 5 to discuss the report of the Policy and Review Com-
<br />mittee with appropriate officials of the Bureau and report back to the Board
<br />tie had two meetings with the Bureau of Reclamation. These meetings, he Said;
<br />were attended by E~ O. Larson and his two engineering advisers, Region 4,
<br />B1,1reau of ReclamatJ.on; J. R. Riter, Region 7, Bureau of Reclamation; and Mr.
<br />Bennett, representing the Washington office of the Bureau. At the first con-
<br />ference, held June 18, 1952, the Director reported, no conclusions were reached
