'"
'\

.

Determine cost effectiveness of the reclamation/recycling system - capital cost and operational cost
versus water savings, replacement water cost, convenience factors, etc. will be tracked and
evaluated. .
Determine possible and practical water savings for the reclamation/recycling system looking at
replacement water costs and reduced water use.
Determine scalability of the reclamation/recycling system as it relates to smaller and/or larger
applications.

.

.

Proiect Approach:
Design and construct a reclamation and/or recycling system for installation and operation in the Denver
Metro area. Utilize photo-essay and documentation techniques to record planning, design, construction, and
operation of the system, with regular updates to State and local web sites, and other publicly available media
channels. Project will also include development of research paper documenting planning and design,
construction and operational issues, as appropriate. Include detailed documentation of those evaluations
listed above (i.e., technical feasibility, cost effectiveness, water savings potential, and scalability).

Technology to Evaluate - Satellite Recycling System
Satellite water reclamation system involves the construction and operation of a self-contained non-biological
treatment system along an existing trunk-line of a municipal wastewater collection system to collect and treat
50,000 to 100,000 gallons of wastewater a day for use as non-potable irrigation water. This application is
ideal for public parks and/or golf courses located near existing wastewater collector sewers and lift stations.
Non-biological treatment technologies are available that can be used to achieve safe, non-potable irrigation
water for on-demand application.

The satellite reclamation system has wide application to the Colorado Front Range communities and to any.
medium to large size municipality in the state that maintains parks, green spaces, and golf courses. Although
water rights must be considered prior to developing an application, many growing municipalities that utilize
non-tributary groundwater and/or transmountain diversions may have water that can be utilized for
reclamation purposes.

Brief Description of the Issues for the Satellite Site Reclamation Demonstration Proiect
Demonstration $350,000 - 450,000
Project
Estimated Cost ($50,000 CWCB Demonstration Grant Request)
Applicability to Wide Applicability to Municipalities and Home Owner Enclaves with
the Front Range Non-tributary Groundwater, Reuse Credits, Transmountain Water
Applicability to Same as above
Colorado Statewide
Permitting Issues Some issues related to monitoring of irrigation water and public notice of
activities - Technology has potential waiver as a pilot
Public Acceptance Limited concerns if appropriately managed (similar applications exist in
Issues StatelFront Range)

.

Flood Protection. Water Project Plarming and Financing. Stream and Lake Protection
Water Supply Protection. Conservation Planning
