Review of Wyoming's Proposed Little Snake River
Water Management Project

Introduction

On November 18, 1981, the State of Wyoming filed in the
District Court for Water Division 6 an application for a storage
right for Three Forks Reservoir on the Little Snake River in
Colorado. Three Forks Reservoi r is a feature of the proposed
Little Snake River Water Management Project (LSRWMP) of the State
of "lyoming.

This memo briefly describes the legislative history of the
Little Snake River Water Management Project, the physical fea-
tures of the project, the applicable provisions of the Upoer
Colorado River Basin Compact, and the project's current status.

Legislative History

The 1979 Session of the Wyoming legislature created the
Wyoming Water Development Commission. The Commission has the
dual role of planning for the use of Wyoming's water on a
basinwide, regional or statewide basis and of planning for the
development of specific individual projects. The legislature
directed the Commission to prepare a water management study of
the Little Snake River Basin. The legislature also authorized
"Stage II" of the Cheyenne Water Project and "Stage III" of the
LSRWMP.
