Administrator, Permit Authority, or Board of Adjustment
pursuant to Section 4 of these regulations.

Flood Proofing - Any combination of structural and
nonstructural additions, changes, or adjustments to
structures which reduce or eliminate flood damage to real
estate or improved real property, water and sanitary
facilities, and structures and their contents.

Floodway District (FWD) - The high hazard area of a Desig-
nated Floodplain District. It includes the channel of a
stream or other watercourse and any adjacent floodplain
areas that must be kept free of development so the base
flood can be carried without substantial increase in flood
height. Specifically, a Floodway District may be defined
according to one or both of the following criteria:

(a) The area of the Designated Floodplain District where
floodwater from the base flood is 18 inches or greater
in depth.

(b) The stream channel plus any adjacent floodplain areas
that must be kept free of development so the base flood
can pass with no more than a .5 foot increase in the
water surface elevation or the energy grade line, pro-
viding hazardous velocities are not produced. If the
floodway is not identified, it is considered to be
identical to the Designated Floodplain District.

However in no instances shall the Floodway-Floodfringe
boundary be closer than 25 feet to the streambank or
the outer limits of the Designated Floodplain District:
if less restrictive.

Floodfrinqe District (FFD) - the low hazard area between the
outer boundary of a Floodway District and the outer limit of
a Designated Floodplain District.

Flood Hazard Boundary Map (FHBM) - An official map of a
communlty lssued by the Federal Insurance Administration,
on which areas potentially subject to flooding have been
delineated.

Flood Insurance Rate map (FIRM) - An official map of a
community issued by the Federal Insurance Administration, on
which the area subject to flooding by the base flood has
been delineated, either by approximate or detailed
engineering study, or both, and on which flood insurance
rate zones have been delineated. Such map may also include
the delineation of water surface elevations and floodway
boundaries.

Floodprone District (FPD) - An area, in and adjacent to a
stream or other water course, subject to flooding, which is

-4~
