The committee met on March; 12 and drafted a plan for year one. The plan is <br />still in development based upon more feedback from water education providers. An additional $40,000 is . <br />allocated to continue the work and to hire a coordinator. See the Water Education/Information Coordinator <br />Position Description for details. <br /> <br />Another meeting was held on September 4 to develop a two-year plan, vision and mission statement to lay <br />groundwork for a water education foundation. The September 4 meeting continued the work toward a long- <br />term strategic plan. <br /> <br />Task: Provide input for modifications of grade 4 Water's Ways Curriculum. <br /> <br />Nancy Kellogg provided suggestions and resources to Judith! Daley to assist with alignment of the materials <br />with Colorado Model Content Standards and assessments. Tp.e grade 4 curriculum is being formatted like the <br />grade 3 curriculum that is being piloted. Nancy is also providing input on science investigations and <br />assessments. <br /> <br />Task: Attend conferences and showcase water education. materials, <br /> <br />Nancy Kellogg and Judith Daley presented a workshop on the Colorado Water <br />Conservation Board Water Education Project at the "Teaching Outside the Box" Conference sponsored by <br />the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education at Snow Mountain Ranch in Fraser, Colorado on May 5, <br />6,2001. This included information and activities on Learning to be WaterWise and Water's Ways, the <br />CD-ROM on water education resources and how to become involved in the water education provider <br />network. The CD-ROM was distributed to conference attendees. Nancy Kellogg and Don Hollums will do a. <br />presentation at the October 4-5,2001 Colorado Science Convention with a focus on water education tools, <br />strategies and resources for teachers. In additiont there will be a water education booth at the Colorado <br />Science Convention. <br />Task: Assist with design and implementation ofprofes~ional development model for grade 3 Water's <br />Ways pilot teachers. <br /> <br />Workshops will be delivered to pilot site teachers. Judith Daley and Nancy Kellogg planned and presented <br />two workshops for the third grade Water's Ways pilot teachers, one in Alamosa on March 3 and one in <br />Durango on March 10, 2001. Twenty-one teachers are signed up to receive one semester graduate level <br />credit from Adams State College. During the workshop, teachers learned how to use the kits, looked at <br />resources in the kits, did several hands-on activities and ~eard presentations from local water experts. <br />Teachers completed the pre-assessment and learned proc~dures for giving a pre/post assessment to their <br />students. A second workshop will be held at both sites fOf the same pilot teachers in late September. <br /> <br />Task: Work with other organizations to foster information and resources on water education. <br /> <br />Nancy Kellogg has met with Ed Geary, Project Director on a water digital library, about collaboration on the <br />new digital library for water education that is being funded by the National Science Foundation, Colorado <br />water education resources will be part of the digitallibr,*,y. <br /> <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board <br />Flood Protection.
