<br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Interim Water Education Report <br />Nancy Kellogg, Water Education Coordinator <br />September 7, 2001 <br /> <br />A summary of tasks for Colorado water education supported by the Colorado Water Conservation Board is <br />outlined below. <br /> <br />Task: Set up and provide ongoing communication through a list-serve for water education providers <br />and Colorado Water Conservation Board, <br /> <br />A list-serve is operational and currently has 97 members that receive ongoing communication about a variety <br />of topics such as water provider meetings, workshop opportunities, water education resources and input on <br />the strategic plan. In addition, the water education coordinator has ongoing communication with Dan <br />McAuliffe, Tom Cech, Chris Treese, Judith Daley, Dave Munk, Don Hollums, and Alisabeth Hohn about <br />ongoing operation of overall project, pilot education projects in classrooms, and evaluation of the pilot <br />projects. The Water Education Coordinator also has a list-serve for science education leaders in Colorado. <br />She shares water education information with this group and has recruited several members of the science <br />group to be involved with the water education group. Water education information is also sent to the MAST <br />Center at the University of North em Colorado to be disseminated via their list-serve. <br /> <br />Task: Assist with development of an evaluation plan, <br /> <br />Alisabeth Hohn developed an overall plan with input from Nancy Kellogg. For both the Water's Ways and <br />Learning to be WaterWise pilot projects teacher surveys were developed and sent to the pilot teachers. <br />Survey data is being compiled and analyzed by Alisabeth Hohn. She will write a detailed report with <br />recommendations by October 20, 2001. In addition pre and post assessments were developed for teachers <br />and students for Water's Ways. These assessments will be used as part of the professional development fmal <br />session as a learning tool for teachers. As part of the experience they will score and discuss student work <br />samples. For the Learning to be WaterWise program, pre and post student assessments are part of the <br />developed kit. <br /> <br />Task: Plan and hold state water education provider meetings. <br /> <br />The fIrst meeting was held on April 30 for thirty-three Front Range water education providers at the <br />Colorado Division of Wildlife, Hunter Education <br />Building. The meeting was co-hosted by Don Hollums, Colorado Department of Education. Participants <br />shared information about their programs and needs. Recommendations for the future include further <br />meetings to share information, ideas, and best practices; more adult water education programs identified; and <br />coordination off water education efforts in Colorado. A water education provider information survey was <br />given to participants to complete for a database. A meeting for water education providers will be held in <br />Denver this fall to discuss future needs and discuss the functions of a water education foundation. <br /> <br />Task: Complete development of a five-year water education plan and develop a five-year strategic <br />plan with a committee. <br /> <br />The fIve-year water education plan was revised in December 2000 under the leadership of Tom Cech that <br /> <br />incorporated feedback from a number of water education providers and the Water Education Coordinator. <br /> <br />This plan was shared with the Colorado Water Congress Education Committee on January 25 at the Holiday <br /> <br />Inn in Northglenn.
