The Board staff provides infonnational messages and assistance to the Colorado citizenry regarding certain <br />floodplain management activities regarding Colorado's annual flooding threats. The Colorado Water <br />Conservation Board (CWCB) has a responsibility to "devise and fonnulate methods, means, and plans for <br />bringing about the greater utilization of the waters of the state and the prevention of flood damages as <br />authorized byCRS 37-60-106 (c). In response to this duty and the experiences of the CWCB staffin recent <br />flood operations, the staff conducts certain annual flood preparedness activities in cooperation with other <br />state and federal agencies. <br /> <br />These flood preparedness activities are progranuned to assist property owners obtain flood insurance <br />coverage and foster an awareness flood hazards and risks on Colorado's floodplains. These awareness and <br />preparedness activities are coordinated with the Colorado Office of Emergency Management (OEM) throug <br />a number on infonnational resources. <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />The CWCB' s 200 I Flood Preparedness Program includes the release of a flood insurance news release _ <br />see attached draft. which advises local governments and their citizenry of I) this year's flood threat <br />potential, 2) the common misconceptions about flood insurance, 3) the availability of flood insurance to <br />Colorado citizens, 4) flood outlook reports, 5) partnering with OEM for Colorado Severe Weather Week <br />(April 22-28, 2001) and 6) assisting Colorado entities with flood preparedness activities. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Flood Protection' Water Project Planning and Financing.
